Held on 19th June 2025 at Haniffa Business School, MAHSA Avenue, Kuala Lumpur
What does it take to move ground-breaking research from the lab bench to market-ready healthcare solutions? That was the central question explored by Prof. Dato’ Dr. Mohd Zaki Salleh, Director of iPROMISE (UiTM) and Founder of Zakesy Biotech Sdn. Bhd., at this notable edition of Urban Vision.
Established in 2019, Zakesy Biotech is a Malaysian pioneer in precision health, translating decades of academic breakthroughs into affordable genetic testing, diagnostics, and contract-based services for hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, and consumers.
Highlights from the Talk:
Completion of Malaysia’s first Malay whole genome (2011), validated by global centres such as George Washington University and IGIB India
Real-world case stories—like how a simple genome screen helped resolve a 20-year eczema condition
Innovative platforms including zebrafish-based toxicity screening, LC-MS metabolomics, and personal pharmacogenomic cards that optimize drug response and health prediction
Collaborations with local hospitals, PETRONAS, and global biotech firms to co-develop and commercialize tailored biotech solutions
Envisioned a future where every Malaysian has a personalised genome health card—empowering precise and preventive treatment across the healthcare journey
From sequencing the Malay genome to building ISO-certified testing platforms, Prof. Zaki’s journey is a testament to how academic research can become impactful biotechnology—built in Malaysia, for the world.
“We may not be the biggest, but we’re building science where it matters—into lives, into health decisions, into the future.”
